Tragic & Misunderstood
Here we are, World, in “2020”. We know that these politicians are playing "The Game”. Sometime in life certain types of relationships are “Tragic & Misunderstood”, with trips to different dimension and “Space Travel”. So then, why back track to a “He Knew Her New”? Some people always try to “Sabotage”, who you are, and that cannot happen in love. We all must keep on marching “To the Beat” of our own hearts. Sometimes we just wanted to tell people “I ______ You”, whatever the feeling may be. Putting yourself out there, on the “Universal Whims” of life, takes risk for reward. Do not let yourself fall too deeply into the “Dark Abyss”. We know that “Every Now and Then”, bad vibes, the wrong people, and foolishly drunk people can toss up everything! Play Center band, our Second Album Tragic & Misunderstood.
2019 Shows & Punk Black
We have been slack on writing about the shows, but if you have been following the social media, you have seen the fun. We went back to Art Bar and had a blast. We played a couple shows with our friends in Black Cat adventure Squad, as well as Timmy James and the blue flames. Our Friends in Turbo Gatto came down to help us at Smith's Olde bar as Sanity Please was introduced to to Atlanta. The Spurge show with our friends Dynamite Death Chair. The Cosmic Kitten show at Red Light Cafe'. We could talk in great detail about each show, but honestly all I remember is the band killing it, and building some solid friends with common music interest. I know I have missed bands, bars, places and people, but that isn't my intention . Each experience was awesome.
Most recently the Punk Black monthly show was a rocking the roof off the place good time. To experience a room full of rock and roll Afrocentric Punk rockers. Beautiful people having a blast in the way I have my entire life. Obviously documentary films have been watched, festivals popped up, blogs, podcast, but to be there and have the up close and personal punk rock club experience. All people are my, Kevin Lee, Peoples but to be there with "my" people and "my" people. Hopefully y'all get what I'm saying. Yes, there should be more articles we put out. Hopefully time will allow soon.

The band took a little ride up to Columbia SC’s Art Bar. This is simply my kind of place. Cool hand made electric stuff, real live music, Super nice people, fun people, and finally professional. The bands we played with PHD, a local hard rocking band sounded remarkably fabulous and brought a nice crowd. While Mercy Mercy, from Jacksonville Florida had me thinking how much I love simply love music. I loved their tone and overall performance level. Go check these guys out, They kind of remind me of The Lizard Men and a new version of 60's rock. The venue itself is rectangular with a dividing wall, and with a couch section in the back. The bar had a nice selection of whatever you wanted, it was clean, and the staff was just great. I mean I’d still consider it a “dive bar” and music venue. The sort of place where I have seen the best bands ever, some of whom the mass public will hardly know. I was in a Sci-Fiction sanctuary, with "art deco" robots and old sci-fi movie posters. We played a new set and really had fun with it. What is next? Well, shows in December and January, need to work on February, March… I'm happy the folks seemed to respond 100% positively with the music, which for is like saying here's a "baby" I just gave birth to. Check it out in all it's afterbirth, blood, and perfect rawness. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of flaws, but it's perfect to me, like only a proud parent can be in the very moment a child is born. That's my perspective from a non-parent. Hopefully I don’t get parents mad at me for comparing music to a new born baby. I'm just expressing how much this music means to me and how much I love creating things especially music, and really just watching this grow.

Unfortunately in recent weeks Harry Jingles decided to leave the band for unforeseen reasons. So we are 3 pieces of pure rock furry. When a fan came up to me and said he likes it as much with 3 of us as we did with 4, It said something. Harry is missed and will forever be an originator of this project Play Center, and we are constantly "Moving On".
In short we are writing our 2nd E.P. or L.P., and doing shows in Columbia SC next week, and back at Smith's Ole Bar late December. We are experimenting with different tones and synth tones. This has been an incredible 1st year of this band. From thoughts in my head to traveling for shows, record out, and having a blast.
Recent Writings On Us
The band was stoked to get a write up about what is going on with Play Center. We tried to let Jeff stop in the rehearsal so he can hear us and talk to a band. It ended up working best as a phone interview with me (Kevin). I love how Jeff let me speak and explain. I think he digs the vibe of what we do.
Up Dates and Hell Yeah!
Wow, what a run! The record is out and now the work begins. Talking to people, sending it off to people that may listen. Seeking cheap and free ways to be heard. Strangely whatever we are doing, whatever I am doing seems to be working slowly but surely. The last several weeks we have been writing together. I like to have a pretty solid idea to bring to the table. Before I even say, “hey guys let’s try this,” It’s been thought about for a week or two, demoed to a drum loop, redone, then done again… I love the early early demos and memos of songs. I mean how raw is a tape recording of when the idea first came into your head? Then to hear how it evolves into something special. I mean, you’ve heard it the entire time, but some may not. We have 3 songs we are in the first stages of about to play them live and see how the people respond. As a matter of fact, I’ll put a clip in this post and y’all enjoy the firs time we played this song. Yes, literally the first time we all together worked on this melody. So what else is new. We have stickers, cd’s, t shirts, buttons, and down load cards. Come to a show and get some. Hit us up on the net, get some. Finally, this is a call to action! Be sure to Call WRAS and WREK to request some good music. WRAS the Georgia Show, plays all styles of good music. One of my dreams since I was a kid, was hearing my punk rock record on college radio. Specifically, WRAS, public radio, KEXP, and late-night locals only kind of thing.
Going All out!
The first several shows are under our belts and I finally feel as we our "on the way". I'm not sure where yet, but things are moving. Record is due out shortly, and shows are getting booked. Hands down, having a band ain't easy when you're going all out and taking the game seriously. Sure its fun, but I can't have fun unless I'm doing my best and my best has yet to be seen. Right now, I feel as if my life and the lessons learned has all led up to this point. Marketing skills, sound engineering school, divorce, addictions, Christianity, the streets, old bands, every concert I've been too, and punk rock parties I sponsored at young age. I mean everything I have experienced in life has helped me create this band project. Feeling 100% alive is awesome! We are still moving forward. I want to book a little tour, I want many big stages, I want many house party gigs, we are working on the next E.P., and so many bands we want to play with. Which brings me to my next thought. Atlanta is very much a who you know rock market these days. The more bands, promoters, and talent buyers you know the better off you are. I call it the Kool Kids Club. I'm for sure not taking away from any band's talents. Most I've heard are at least okay to very good, to totally awesome. Even good bands seem to be promoters and putting their own shows together, Leaving some very good bands with no stages, but having awesome house parties. Very good bands booked in big venues with low turnouts. Well known touring bands hitting venues on a week day night only to play "private shows". So, in short bands must be willing to go all out to get to where they want to be, no matter what that may be. And all out is different for each act.
Here's a bit of footage from our last gig. Enjoy!!!
The time has come to press this band off in a big way. While other bands might have a show or two, write a record, or have a media blogger stop by; my plan is all of the above. What have I gotten in to? In the DIY Independent day and age of music I believe it's a must. Why have record no one knows about? Why have shows with nothing for people to purchase, and with all of that we'd might has well let everyone know we're doing and to enjoy it!
Obviously I believe in the music and the band believes, now to gain some fans and folks that like it as well. We have a few and we haven't shown a soul a thing yet. In the end I hope to sell a record or two and get a few folks out to shows, but really its about getting folks shaking behinds, wiggling butts, and moshing. If I see a head bobbing or two.
Little bit by bit of a journey. Hopefully we all will blog to y'all!
